Welcome to the Talk Of The Week Club. I began this club as a way to share my love of learning and growing in the gospel of Jesus Christ through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My hope and desire is for you to learn and grow in your faith and love of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Each Thursday a new talk will be posted, come back, open your heart and mind, allow yourself to receive and I promise you will be spiritually fed.

Week 5: Let Us Rejoice Together

This is the fifth Thursday of the month. Which means it is time to think about all the great talks and quotes you've heard recently and share with the rest of us. How you do that is you either write about it in the comments of this post or you can email it to me at talkoftheweek@gmail.com and I will put it in the comments for you.

Below are some great references in finding articles:

The opportunity to learn the gospel is just as important as the admonition to teach the gospel. In D&C 50: 22, we read the following: "Wherefore, he that preacheth and he that receiveth, understand one another, and both are edified and rejoice together." Let us teach and receive of one another so we can ALL be edified and rejoice together in the sweetness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

I can't wait to be edified by you wonderful friends and family.

  1. I will be the first to share a story that really touched me. Thanks to a friends for forwarding it to me. It was a short post from Hillary Weeks. You can copy this link:http://deseretbook.com/time-out/view_post/4 into your browser for the full message.
She described a Christmas in her teen years where she sneaked a peek of all her gifts. I must have connected with this story as I sorrowfully admit to doing the same thing! She goes onto say how it made her feel then and how her actions relate to life now as we all sometimes wish we could get a "Sneak Peek" of our lives and what our futures hold. Instead of just enjoying the moment that is the present (get it "present"?) Here is my favorite quote from her message.
"Sometimes, now, I wish I knew what was ahead in life - if I could just see around the bend, even just a couple of days or weeks. Sometimes I would really like to know what the future holds. But I guess that would spoil the surprise. So, even when I'm feeling anxious about days to come I need to trust, not try to figure out or fret, I just need to wait and open the gift of each day, one at a time."

  2. Thanks for sharing! I can totally relate to that right now. As always, I am always edified by stopping by!

On a separate note, I was wondering if you would like me to create a "button" for this blog. That way fans of this blog can post the button on their own blogs leading even more people here to be enriched. Email me and let me know!

  3. Hi Shauntell! It is already Thursday and I am just getting to responding to your requests for 5th week ideas! What I have absolutely LOVED listening to and watching are the talks/videos and music from the Brand New Year celebration for the youth! Oh my goodness! They did such a great job and I can feel the spirit so strong each time I watch them! All of my children love them too!
    Be blessed!

  4. Shauntell-

Thanks so much for doing this--it has been a great help to me the last few months. It amazes me how often I need something, then the answer comes through your talk of the week. You're awesome!

My 5th Thursday inspiration comes from the scriptures. My mom's oldest brother passed away yesterday, less than a week after being diagnosed with acute leukemia. He is survived by his wife, 11 children, and numerous grandchildren. My mom had just selected Isaiah 32:17-18 as the theme scripture for their stake relief society, and it has immediately become one of my favorites.

"And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. And my people shall dwell in peacable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places."

I can think of no greater promise than "quietness and assurance for ever." To truly know that I am right with the Lord, and that my actions would be His actions has been a goal, and I often get discouraged and feel that I am not doing enough, or that I don't measure up. Yet we are promised by this scripture that "the effect of righteousness"
is that quiet calmness and sense of peace. I have felt that often, and now I recognize it for what it is--the Spirit letting me know that I am enough. With the sudden passing of my uncle, the reassurance of a "quiet resting place" has been very comforting. I hope to do all I can to ensure that for myself and my family.
